Retrieval Tool

A retrieval tool gives an agent the ability to search an external knowledge source — such as a vector database, document store, or search engine — and return relevant passages as a tool result. Unlike static context injected at the start of a conversation, retrieval tools can be called on demand and with targeted queries, allowing the agent to fetch exactly the information it needs at each step of its reasoning.
